Ananya Wadkar, daughter of Padma Shri Suresh Wadkar, recently debuted as a singer with the song ‘Vaada Hai’ from the movie “O’ Romeo” starring Shahid Kapoor. Trained in Hindustani classical music as a singer and sitarist, Ananya expressed her joy at working with Vishal Bhardwaj, stating that singing for him was a dream come true due to his attention to detail and artistic freedom he offers.
Ananya’s debut song ‘Vaada Hai’ has been well-received for its emotional depth and classical influences. In addition to this, she has also recorded the reprise version of the song and another track titled ‘Hum Toh Tere Hi Liye’ for the film. Ananya is also part of The Gen Next Collective, a group of young musicians aiming to establish their unique musical identities while honoring their musical heritage.
Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, “O’Romeo” is a film adaptation of Hussain Zaidi’s novel “Mafia Queens of Mumbai”. The movie, set in the 1990s Mumbai underworld, narrates the story of Hussain Ustara, a complex gangster character. Featuring a star-studded cast including Triptii Dimri, Randeep Hooda, Nana Patekar, and others, the film hit the screens on February 13.
