Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed his vision to transform Amaravati into a world-class city driving the state’s economic growth. He emphasized the need for an inclusive capital where people from all regions can work and live together. The Chief Minister reviewed the progress of Amaravati 2.0 Integrated Master Plan and the Land Pooling Scheme with officials and representatives from Singapore, aiming to boost employment opportunities.
Amaravati is undergoing development to become an international-standard city with well-planned Inner and Outer Ring Roads. The Singapore team shared the project’s scope, implementation strategy, and action plan during a meeting with the Chief Minister. They highlighted the focus on area development, infrastructure planning, and investment models in the plan.
Naidu highlighted the importance of water resources in the region, noting the successful transfer of Godavari waters to the Krishna River through the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme. He envisions Amaravati evolving into a creative city with a robust economic foundation, aiming to achieve global benchmarks and high per capita income levels through sustainable and innovation-driven growth. The city’s development plan prioritizes environmental sustainability through green energy and building practices.
The Andhra Pradesh government signed a strategic agreement with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) to promote inclusive and sustainable urban development in the state. The partnership aims to establish a Centre of Excellence for Urban Affairs in Amaravati under the SURGE AP, RISE AP, and UPLIFT AP initiatives. The collaboration will focus on urban poverty alleviation, improving livelihoods for the urban poor, and fostering inclusive city development.
Andhra Pradesh and UN-Habitat will collaborate on strategic urban planning for regional economic growth, climate-resilient urban ecosystems, digital governance, municipal finance, and achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Additionally, they plan to showcase the state’s urban development progress at the 14th World Urban Forum (WUF14) in Mexico in 2028.
