Reliance Group chairman Anil Ambani underwent a seven-hour interrogation by the CBI in Delhi for the second consecutive day regarding the alleged Rs 2,929.05 crore SBI fraud case. The FIR was filed by the CBI on August 21, 2025, following a complaint from SBI, accusing Reliance Communications Limited, Anil D. Ambani, and others, including unidentified public servants, of fraud. Anil Ambani was summoned by the CBI for questioning at their Delhi office due to incomplete interrogation the previous day.
A criminal case was initiated against Reliance Communications Limited, Anil D Ambani, and others based on a complaint from SBI, the lead bank in a consortium of 11 banks that had provided loans to the Anil Ambani group. The complaint, supported by a forensic audit report, alleges misappropriation of loan funds through complex transactions between group entities during 2013-17, resulting in a loss of Rs 2929.05 crore to SBI out of a total exposure of Rs 19,694.33 crore involving 17 public sector banks.
Following the case registration, additional complaints were received from various banks, including Punjab National Bank, Bank of India, Union Bank of India, UCO Bank, Central Bank of India, IDBI Bank, and Bank of Maharashtra. Subsequently, more cases were filed against Reliance Communications Limited and Anil D Ambani based on complaints from Bank of Baroda and Punjab National Bank, involving exposure of other banks. The CBI conducted searches at official and residential premises related to the case, seizing incriminating documents.
