US tech giant Apple has revealed plans to invest Rs 100 crore in supporting the development of renewable energy infrastructure in India. This initiative aligns with Apple’s broader sustainability and carbon neutrality objectives. The company will collaborate with CleanMax, a prominent renewable energy developer in India, to establish over 150 megawatts of new renewable energy capacity nationwide.
The investment is expected to generate enough power to sustain nearly 1.5 lakh Indian households annually and could potentially be expanded in the future. Apple aims to enhance the adoption of renewable energy within its supply chain operations in India, in line with its goal to achieve carbon neutrality across its entire footprint by 2030.
Apple’s Vice President of Environment and Supply Chain Innovation, Sarah Chandler, emphasized the company’s dedication to environmental stewardship and innovation. Chandler stated, “At Apple, our commitment to the environment is also a driving force for innovation across the company and around the world. We are proud to expand our efforts to invest in India’s clean energy economy and protect the country’s precious natural resources.”
In addition to its renewable energy investments, Apple has forged new partnerships in India to combat plastic pollution and promote sustainable entrepreneurship. The company is collaborating with WWF-India to bolster recycling and waste management initiatives, aiming to enhance material recovery and reduce plastic leakage into ecosystems. Furthermore, Apple has teamed up with Acumen to offer grants and mentorship to early-stage green enterprises focusing on waste management, regenerative agriculture, and circular economy solutions.
