India’s Arjun Erigaisi and Koneru Humpy secured bronze medals in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively, at the 2025 FIDE World Rapid Championships in Doha, Qatar. Magnus Carlsen claimed his sixth World Rapid Chess title with 10.5 points, while Erigaisi finished tied for second place with 9.5 points.
Erigaisi’s crucial victory over Aleksandr Shimanov propelled him to the second spot with 9.5 points, securing a bronze medal. Vladislav Artemiev took the second position with a TB1 score of 105.5, ahead of Erigaisi with 98 points, while Hans Moke Niemann and Leinier Domingues Perez finished third and fourth, respectively.
In the women’s event, Koneru Humpy shared the top spot with Aleksandra Goryachkina and Zhu Jiner, each accumulating 8.5 points in 11 rounds. Ultimately, Goryachkina clinched the gold after a tie-break match with Zhu, leaving Humpy in third place. This marks Humpy’s third medal in the Women’s World Rapid Chess Championship.
