Police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district have filed an FIR against Army personnel, including a commanding officer, for allegedly storming a police station and causing injuries to policemen with the intent to kill. The incident unfolded after a police party intercepted and seized a private vehicle owned by an Army official for traffic violations. The FIR details a planned attack by around 30 to 40 Army personnel armed with weapons, allegedly led by Major Vikash Sharma and Naib Subedar Shankar Gurkhe.
The commanding officer, identified as N Arun Gandhi, is accused of giving direct instructions for the assault. The FIR mentions that the Army personnel, armed with lathis and iron rods, intended to cause fatal injuries to the police personnel. The attackers not only assaulted the police officers but also caused extensive damage to government and public property, including vandalizing official vehicles and breaking down the main gate of the police station.
The FIR lists various charges against the accused Army personnel, including unlawful assembly, rioting, assault on public servants, attempt to murder, and damage to government property. The Army has stated that the matter is under investigation through proper channels, with assurances of appropriate action based on the investigation’s findings. The incident occurred while the Station House Officer was away for a meeting, leading to a violent assault within the police station premises.
