In Bikaner, Rajasthan, an accused named Waqeel, aged 20, has been detained from another state in connection with the abduction and sexual assault of a Class 12 student. The Superintendent of Police, Kavendra Singh Sagar, confirmed the detention and stated that the accused will be brought to Rajasthan on Tuesday.
The incident, as per the victim’s family’s complaint, took place on January 6 while the girl was en route to school. Two young men abducted her near the school, drove her around for hours, sexually assaulted her, and issued threats during the ordeal. Villagers intervened when they noticed suspicious activity, prompting the accused to flee, leaving the girl behind.
Following the family’s report, a case was filed on January 11 at Napasar police station. One of the accused is believed to be a lawyer, as per police officials. The investigation has been assigned to Gangashahar Circle Officer Himanshu Sharma, who confirmed the victim’s medical examination and ongoing inquiries.
Police mentioned that further steps will be taken based on the medical examination report. The officer highlighted that investigations are ongoing, emphasizing the importance of addressing women’s safety challenges in the country amidst rising incidents of harassment and violence.
