Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma criticized the Congress and its Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president, Gaurav Gogoi, for allegedly prioritizing a specific community over the state’s welfare and cultural identity. Sarma, during a Facebook Live session, expressed concerns about an Assam MP’s alleged connections with Pakistan and favoritism towards a particular community, which he plans to disclose soon.
Although Sarma did not directly name Gogoi, the BJP has consistently accused the Congress MP from Jorhat of having ties with Pakistan. Sarma emphasized that such actions jeopardize Assam’s well-being and heritage, stating that sacrificing the state’s interests for political gains is unacceptable. He highlighted the importance of unity in safeguarding Assam’s identity against external threats.
Referring to recent events involving the former All Assam Minority Students’ Union president joining the Congress and subsequently resigning, Sarma underscored the significance of preserving the distinct identities of regions like Sivasagar. He criticized Gogoi for not addressing controversial statements made by party members and failing to uphold the party’s principles, indicating a lack of strong leadership within the Congress.
