Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma hailed the BJP’s triumph in West Bengal as a significant moment, anticipating a boost in the party’s influence in eastern and northeastern India. Sarma highlighted the upcoming swearing-in ceremony in West Bengal, expected to be attended by PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Chief Ministers from about 21 states, as a pivotal event for the BJP-led alliance.
He emphasized the broader implications of the victory, noting that with the BJP’s ascent in West Bengal, most states in the eastern and northeastern regions are now under BJP or NDA rule. Sarma expressed optimism that this political shift would facilitate regional progress and enhance cooperation among states.
Addressing the post-election violence in West Bengal, Sarma expressed confidence that the situation would stabilize once the new government assumes office. He reassured that peace and normalcy would gradually be restored under the new administration.
Touching upon the issue of illegal immigration and border security, Sarma reiterated the government’s commitment to securing the international border. He emphasized the ongoing efforts to fortify the border through fencing to prevent fresh infiltration, while gradually addressing the presence of illegal immigrants within the country within the bounds of the law.
Sarma underscored the government’s dedication to upholding national security and demographic balance, emphasizing the importance of stronger coordination among BJP-ruled states in the region. He highlighted the potential benefits of enhanced collaboration in improving infrastructure, trade connectivity, and internal security across eastern and northeastern India.
