Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has expressed deep concern over recent incidents of violence against Hindus in Bangladesh. He highlighted reports of a Hindu man being burnt alive and warned that these events have serious implications for India’s northeastern region.
CM Sarma stated that atrocities against the Hindu community in Bangladesh have intensified and cannot be overlooked. He raised alarm over statements made by certain leaders in power in Bangladesh, alleging their intention to bring India’s northeastern region under their control.
The Chief Minister emphasized Assam’s historical challenges with infiltration from across the Bangladesh border. He stressed that unchecked infiltration poses demographic, social, and security implications, especially for border states like Assam.
CM Sarma called for heightened alertness along the international border and closer monitoring of the situation to protect the interests of northeastern states. He underlined the importance of peace and stability in neighboring countries for maintaining harmony in border regions.
While advocating for vigilance, the Chief Minister warned that any form of extremism, violence against minorities, or hostile intentions towards India’s territory would be strongly addressed. He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to working closely with central agencies to ensure border security and internal stability.
Assam remains dedicated to safeguarding national security and indigenous interests as top priorities, according to CM Sarma.
