Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the residence of former Union Minister Kabindra Purkayastha in Silchar to honor his contributions to Assam’s society and politics. Sarma praised Purkayastha’s role in expanding the BJP in the northeast, highlighting his significance to party workers.
Sarma emphasized that no holiday was declared after Purkayastha’s passing, as it would contradict the late leader’s work ethic. Instead, he suggested working extra hours to honor Purkayastha’s legacy and principles.
Purkayastha, who began his public service with the RSS in 1951, was a key figure in promoting RSS ideology in Assam and the Barak Valley. He played a pivotal role in establishing the BJP in Assam, contributing to its growth and grassroots presence in the region.
