Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised Syama Prasad Mookerjee for his support to Assam during challenging times, inaugurating a flyover in Guwahati named after Mookerjee. Sarma highlighted Mookerjee’s role in boosting Assamese morale and opposing uncertain plans for the state’s future.
During the event, Sarma lauded Mookerjee as a true well-wisher of Assam, emphasizing his patriotism and commitment to national interests. Mookerjee’s speeches in the 1940s provided hope and courage to the people amidst political turbulence, strengthening their resolve against divisive plans.
The Chief Minister also acknowledged Mookerjee’s contributions to education and culture, mentioning his efforts to promote Assamese language and higher education. Mookerjee’s vision for Assam included establishing it as a hub for academic research and preserving its unique cultural and intellectual identity.
The newly inaugurated flyover, completed ahead of schedule at a cost of Rs 376 crore, is set to enhance connectivity in Guwahati’s south-western corridor, easing traffic flow along the busy highway linking Arya Nagar to National Highway-27.
