Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, recently met with Lieutenant General Neeraj Shukla, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Indian Army’s Gajraj Corps, to address issues concerning peace, stability, and security in the Northeast region. Sarma praised the Indian Army’s efforts in upholding peace and stability in the area, calling the meeting “productive.”
The meeting took place against the backdrop of improved law and order conditions in the Northeast, marked by various insurgent groups signing peace agreements with the Centre and the Assam government in recent years. The Gajraj Corps, stationed in Tezpur, Assam, holds a significant role in safeguarding the eastern frontier and has a history of active involvement in humanitarian aid, disaster relief, and civic programs across the region.
Apart from its operational duties, the Corps actively participates in humanitarian assistance, disaster relief operations, and various civic action programs in the region. The interaction between the Assam government and the Indian Army highlighted their close collaboration in addressing security challenges and promoting development in border and remote areas.
