Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently met Union Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh in New Delhi to discuss plans for enhancing Assam’s fisheries and dairy industries. The focus of the meeting was on utilizing Assam’s natural resources to increase fish production, enhance exports, and strengthen the dairy sector through improved infrastructure and support systems.
Sarma highlighted the positive discussions with the Union Minister, emphasizing the need to tap into Assam’s vast fisheries potential by scaling up production and promoting exports through a more robust value chain. The aim is to position Assam as a significant hub for fish production and exports, with both the central and state governments working together to translate these ideas into actionable initiatives.
The meeting also addressed strategies to bolster Assam’s dairy sector, including plans to expand dairy cooperatives, enhance animal healthcare facilities, and improve overall productivity. Discussions involved plans to enhance veterinary services, establish veterinary medicine centers, set up processing units, and implement livestock improvement programs to boost the dairy industry in the state.
Union Minister Lalan Singh described the interaction as warm and productive, reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting Assam’s fisheries and dairy sectors. The leaders discussed various measures to increase fish production, promote exports, strengthen processing infrastructure, and enhance the value chain, with a focus on rural development and agricultural growth in Assam.
