Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reaffirmed the state’s commitment to enhancing the dairy industry, with a goal to increase daily milk production to 10 lakh litres. Sarma emphasized the significance of the dairy sector in supporting rural livelihoods and nutrition, stating that each glass of milk contributes to family welfare and rural economic growth. The government is extending subsidies to over 25,000 dairy farmers to boost productivity, elevate rural incomes, and fortify Assam’s dairy ecosystem.
The state administration is implementing various measures to enhance milk production, including financial aid, improved livestock management, scientific breeding practices, and enhanced veterinary services. By focusing on increasing productivity, officials aim to reduce reliance on milk imports from other states and create more income opportunities for rural households. The dairy industry holds a crucial role in Assam’s rural economy, especially for small farmers who supplement their agricultural earnings through livestock rearing.
Efforts are concentrated on enhancing fodder availability, strengthening milk collection infrastructure, and promoting organized dairy farming to support the dairy sector’s growth. The government’s subsidy program aims to assist farmers in adopting better dairy practices, acquiring quality cattle, and modernizing farm operations to boost productivity and ensure sustainable income in rural regions. The target of producing 10 lakh litres of milk daily aligns with Assam’s broader objective of achieving self-sufficiency in dairy production and expanding the state’s agricultural economy.
Authorities stress the pivotal role of agriculture and allied sectors in Assam’s development strategy, with dairy, fisheries, and animal husbandry identified as key drivers of rural prosperity and employment. Policy support and active farmer engagement are expected to propel the state towards realizing its ambitious dairy production target.
