Assam’s Minister for Irrigation, Agriculture, and Parliamentary Affairs, Pijush Hazarika, met with Union Ministers C.R. Patil and Shivraj Singh Chouhan in New Delhi to discuss enhancing cooperation for the state’s irrigation and agriculture sectors. Hazarika emphasized Assam’s significant irrigation potential, covering around 2.7 million hectares of agricultural land, with plans to expand the current coverage of 700,000 hectares under irrigation schemes.
During the meetings, discussions revolved around strengthening irrigation infrastructure in Assam and aligning efforts with the Centre’s “Har Khet Ko Pani” vision. Hazarika highlighted the importance of increased investment and collaborative initiatives to maximize the state’s water resources for improving agricultural productivity. Union Minister Patil acknowledged Assam’s potential in the irrigation sector and pledged support from the Government of India for modernizing irrigation facilities in the state.
Hazarika also engaged with Union Minister Chouhan to present an overview of Assam’s agriculture sector, ongoing initiatives, and future development plans. Chouhan, known for his expertise in agriculture, provided insights and support to boost agricultural growth in Assam. Both ministers affirmed the commitment to work together towards sustainable agricultural progress and better outcomes for farmers in Assam, aiming to leverage central assistance for the state’s agricultural advancement.
