Assam Police visited Congress leader Pawan Khera’s residence in Delhi amidst the controversy surrounding the party’s assertion that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife holds three passports. The search at Khera’s residence followed Sarma’s wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, filing an FIR on the matter. CM Sarma, addressing a press conference in Guwahati, pledged to take severe action against Pawan Khera in response to the issue. He vehemently denied any connection between his family and property ownership in Dubai, labeling the accusations as false and part of a misinformation campaign by the Congress.
The Chief Minister discredited online documents allegedly showing Dubai property title deeds associated with his family, branding them as forged and inconsistent. He emphasized the falsity of the claims, stating that there is no credible evidence to support them and urged individuals to verify the facts through Dubai’s official land records portal. Sarma emphasized that all accusations in this regard have been thoroughly disproved. The ongoing political clash between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress in Assam has been fueled by these allegations. Congress leaders, including Gaurav Gogoi and Pawan Khera, have raised concerns about the Chief Minister’s family’s alleged foreign assets and connections, particularly regarding Dubai properties and foreign documents.
The Chief Minister and his family members have unequivocally denied these allegations. Sarma’s wife, Riniki, has also dismissed assertions of any foreign business interests or assets as groundless. The BJP has accused the Congress of engaging in malicious politics and conducting a smear campaign ahead of crucial electoral events in the state. In contrast, the opposition has stated that it is advocating for transparency and accountability.
