The BJP-led NDA government in Assam is poised to be sworn in for a third consecutive term on May 12 after a resounding victory in the Assembly elections. A meeting of the NDA Legislature Party is scheduled for May 10 in Guwahati, where alliance legislators will officially choose their leader. Winning NDA candidates have been instructed to arrive in Guwahati on May 9 for the crucial meeting and subsequent government formation process.
Senior BJP leaders, including former party national president J.P. Nadda and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, are expected to join discussions in Assam on May 9. The NDA is anticipated to claim the formation of the new government before Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on the evening of May 10 post the Legislature Party meeting.
The BJP-led alliance secured a comfortable majority in the recent Assam Assembly elections, paving the way for Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to continue in power for another term. Sarma mentioned that the new BJP-led government in the state will be formed and sworn in after May 11, following the completion of necessary formalities.
After submitting his resignation to Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Sarma stated that the Election Commission had officially declared the results and notified the Assembly poll results. He recommended the dissolution of the present Assam Legislative Assembly in line with democratic traditions. The Governor accepted both recommendations, instructing the outgoing ministry to function as a caretaker government until the new ministry assumes office.
