The ruling NDA alliance in Assam, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, convened a significant meeting at the Assam Legislative Assembly premises in Guwahati. This meeting follows the alliance’s strong performance in the recent Assam Assembly elections, where they secured a comfortable majority. The state government plans to introduce the Uniform Civil Code during the ongoing Assembly session, a move opposed by the Congress party.
Legislators from the BJP and its allies participated in the closed-door meeting, focusing on organizational coordination, governance priorities, and future political strategies. Senior leaders, including ministers and MLAs, were part of the discussions chaired by the Chief Minister. The meeting aimed to enhance coordination among alliance partners and expedite the implementation of government programs statewide.
While no official statement was immediately released post-meeting, internal discussions emphasized strengthening coordination among alliance members and fast-tracking government program implementations. The NDA alliance, spearheaded by the BJP, secured a resounding victory in the Assembly elections, underscoring the popularity of the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government.
In the recent polls, the BJP independently crossed the majority mark for the first time in Assam, with its allies, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), also improving their electoral performance in various constituencies. The NDA clinched 102 seats in the 126-member Assembly, with the BJP alone securing 82 seats. Opposition parties like Congress failed to significantly challenge the NDA’s electoral dominance, especially in Upper Assam, North Assam, and parts of the Barak Valley.
The NDA’s victory stemmed from welfare schemes, infrastructure projects, and the BJP’s robust organizational structure in Assam. The Himanta Biswa Sarma government, post-election, continued its focus on law and order, investment promotion, flood management, welfare delivery, and major infrastructure endeavors. The legislative party meeting aimed to bolster coordination within the alliance and strategize for the future.
The Assam NDA government reiterated its commitment to development, governance reforms, and swift welfare scheme implementations in its new term. Alliance legislators discussed constituency-specific issues and monitored the progress of government initiatives across districts. Held amidst heightened political activities in the state capital, the meeting signifies efforts to maintain alliance coordination and chart the political course ahead.
