Raijor Dal’s Akhil Gogoi penned a letter to Assam’s Chief Minister, alleging misinformation and expressing concerns over BJP’s choice of a contentious candidate for Sivasagar. Gogoi criticized the CM for using the term “Chitragupta” in reference to him during the election campaign, defending BJP’s Jayanta Hazarika.
The letter highlighted the haunting memories of alleged “secret killings” in Assam during the late 1990s and early 2000s, linking Hazarika to criminal cases from that period. Gogoi questioned the moral basis of fielding a candidate facing such serious allegations, emphasizing the negative impact on public trust in democratic processes.
Gogoi warned against empowering individuals with controversial backgrounds, stressing the importance of speaking out against criminality in politics. He urged the Chief Minister to reconsider the decision, emphasizing the need to uphold democratic values in the state.
