Aston Villa missed a chance to secure the second spot in the Premier League following a 1-0 loss to Everton at home. Thierno Barry’s 57th-minute goal, his third in four games, sealed the victory after an error by Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. The defeat snapped Villa’s streak of 11 consecutive home wins, leaving them trailing behind Arsenal and Manchester City in the league standings.

Newcastle United also failed to break into the top five after a goalless draw against Wolverhampton in their Sunday fixture. Despite creating opportunities, Newcastle couldn’t find the net, while Wolves continued their positive form under coach Rob Edwards with a run of four matches, including three draws and a win.

In the Manchester derby, Manchester United triumphed 2-0 over Manchester City, marking a successful start for interim coach Michael Carrick. Arsenal maintained a seven-point lead over Manchester City but was held to a draw by Nottingham Forest due to the home side’s solid defensive performance. Chelsea secured a 2-0 victory over Brentford with goals from Joao Pedro and Enzo Fernandez.

Liverpool’s Florian Wirtz scored, but Burnley’s goalkeeper Martin Dubravka’s efforts denied Liverpool more goals, resulting in a draw. Sunderland returned to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace, courtesy of goals from Enzo Le Fee and Brian Brobby. Leeds United clinched a 1-0 win over Fulham with Lukas Nmecha’s late strike, while Callum Wilson’s 93rd-minute goal helped West Ham secure a 2-1 win against Tottenham, boosting their chances of survival and adding pressure on Spurs coach Thomas Frank.
