Australia, Canada, and the European Union have jointly criticized the killing of anti-government protesters in Iran, praising the Iranians for their courage in defending their rights. The protests in Iran have led to numerous deaths and a communication blackout in some areas, with ongoing unrest. Reports indicate that at least 62 people have died since the demonstrations started in December.
The Foreign Ministers of Australia, Canada, and the EU expressed support for the Iranian people’s right to peaceful protest and condemned the violence, arrests, and intimidation by the Iranian regime. They called on Iran to stop using excessive force and to respect freedom of expression and assembly without fear of retaliation. The protests, which began over economic issues, have evolved into a nationwide movement against the ruling clerics.
The demonstrations have spread to various locations across Iran, with over 65 reported deaths and thousands of detentions. Iran’s exiled crown prince, Reza Pahlavi, has appealed to US President Trump for assistance, urging action to help the Iranian people. Pahlavi, who has been advocating for regime change, has seen support from protesters calling for his return to Iran amidst the ongoing unrest.
