Australian cricketer Usman Khawaja is set to speak at a press conference before the fifth Ashes Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The 39-year-old will discuss rumors surrounding his Test cricket future. Despite being a likely candidate for Australia’s final game, Khawaja’s future in red-ball cricket post the Ashes series remains uncertain.
A press conference has been scheduled at the SCG for 8:15 am Australian time. Although Cricket Australia has not confirmed the speakers, Khawaja is expected to address the media. The event has been rescheduled to occur before the host team’s training session on Friday.
During the Ashes series, Khawaja, a veteran of 87 Tests, has had a mixed performance with scores of 2, 82, 40, 29, and 0 so far. He suffered a back injury during the first Test in Perth and missed the subsequent match in Brisbane. Initially considered for exclusion in the third Test in Adelaide, Khawaja returned to the team when Steve Smith fell ill on match day.
Former Australian captain Michael Clarke has suggested that Khawaja retire after the upcoming fifth Ashes Test. Clarke believes that Khawaja has the opportunity to end his career on a high note. He expressed his hope for Khawaja to score big in the final Test and retire with dignity at the SCG.
