Senior Australian diplomat Paul Murphy met with Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Bagde at Lok Bhawan to explore collaboration in higher education, tribal heritage preservation, agriculture, and trade. Murphy updated the Governor on existing efforts to enhance India–Australia ties in education, commerce, and trade. Discussions centered on enhancing academic partnerships, sustainable farming practices, and safeguarding indigenous cultural heritage.
Governor Bagde highlighted the potential for Rajasthan to adopt Australia’s successful higher education models, tribal heritage conservation practices, and water-efficient agricultural techniques suitable for arid regions. Murphy agreed to investigate opportunities for academic partnerships and student exchanges between Australian institutions and Rajasthan universities. Plans were made for virtual meetings between Vice-Chancellors of Rajasthan universities and their Australian counterparts to identify collaboration areas.
The talks also covered Australia’s agricultural innovations tailored for regions with water scarcity. Governor Bagde emphasized Rajasthan’s potential to benefit from such technologies, especially in drought-prone areas. The meeting underscored the importance of preserving tribal heritage, with Murphy expressing Australia’s readiness to collaborate on initiatives for the conservation and promotion of Aboriginal and Rajasthan’s tribal communities’ cultural legacy.
An Australian delegation is set to visit the West Zone Cultural Centre in Udaipur in the coming months to discuss future collaboration frameworks. Governor Bagde recalled his visit to Australia during his tenure as Speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, noting the potential for adopting successful Australian models in civic sense, traffic management, education, and agriculture for the benefit of Rajasthan and India. Discussions during the meeting also touched on issues related to the state’s universities and agricultural projects, with Governor’s Secretary Prithvi, Cooperative Department Secretary Samit Sharma, and Australian Consul General’s aide Najin Luth in attendance.
