New Delhi/Washington, Aug 7 (IANS) The Australian High Commission in India marked ‘National Handloom Day’ on Friday with staff members at the mission dressed in Indian wear. While sharing the picture on X, Australia’s High Commissioner to India, Philip Green, stated that India’s handloom sector reflects the country’s extraordinary cultural diversity and craftsmanship.

“From vibrant weaves to timeless traditions, India’s handloom sector reflects the country’s extraordinary cultural diversity and craftsmanship. On National Handloom Day, we celebrate India’s master weavers and artisans by dressing up in beautiful Indian textiles,” stated Ambassador Green.

Meanwhile, American singer Mary Millben also marked the ‘National Handloom Day’ by sharing a picture along with India’s Ambassador to the Netherlands, Kumar Tuhin and Vijay Chauthaiwale, In-Charge, Foreign Affairs Department, BJP. In the picture, Millben is seen wearing a saree.

Millben termed handloom a “timeless heritage” and a pillar of rural empowerment showcasing millions of women-owned textile businesses in India.

“I join my friend Prime Minister Narendra Modi and my beloved India in honouring National Handloom Day. This timeless heritage is a pillar of rural empowerment and showcases millions of women-owned textile businesses in India. The spirit of India is in every hand that weaves, every fabric that blooms, every colour that shines. This beautiful tradition, for which I wear with love, is the hallmark of a great people and a great Nation,” wrote Millben.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi extended greetings on the occasion of ‘National Handloom Day’, paying tribute to India’s rich handloom heritage and the generations of weavers and artisans who have preserved the country’s traditional craftsmanship.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “Today, on National Handloom Day, we celebrate India’s rich and vibrant handloom heritage. We also salute the skill, creativity and dedication of our weavers and artisans. For generations, they have preserved and enriched our traditions.”

“Our government will keep supporting the handloom sector, which is an important pillar of rural empowerment, women-led development and fulfilling the dream of an Atmanirbhar Bharat. Do share your favourite handloom products and GRWM videos using National Handloom Day, which will encourage those associated with the sector,” he added.
