Austria’s Federal Chancellor Christian Stocker has arrived in India for his first official visit, focusing on enhancing bilateral relations in trade, investment, and emerging technologies. Welcomed by Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports @khadseraksha, Stocker’s visit aims to strengthen the ‘Enhanced India–Austria partnership.’ This four-day trip is Stocker’s first to India and Asia since taking office in 2025.
During his visit, Stocker will engage in extensive discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to enhance cooperation in trade, investment, green technology, and other critical sectors. Accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising senior ministers, government officials, and business leaders, the visit underscores a strong economic emphasis. Both countries are set to explore collaboration opportunities in advanced manufacturing, digital innovation, and renewable energy.
The visit occurs against the backdrop of increasing economic ties between India and Austria. Talks are expected to encompass regional and global issues of mutual concern, along with cooperation in multilateral forums. India and Austria, sharing a history of friendly relations based on democratic values, are poised to strengthen their partnership further, building on the momentum from PM Modi’s 2024 visit to Austria.
In 2025, during the eighth round of India–Austria Foreign Office Consultations in Vienna, Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs Sibi George and Austria’s Secretary General for Foreign Affairs Nikolaus Marschik reviewed bilateral relations comprehensively. The discussions also touched upon reinforcing India–EU ties and exchanging perspectives on regional and global issues of common interest.
