India’s Permanent Representative P. Harish highlighted the significance of B.R. Ambedkar’s concept of constitutional morality in enhancing multilateralism amidst global conflicts. At an event commemorating Ambedkar Jayanti, discussions centered on the relevance of Ambedkar’s vision for strengthening the UN through moral and legal principles. Scholar Raja Sekhar Vundru emphasized Ambedkar’s advocacy for multilateralism, aligning with the spirit of the UN Charter.

Ambedkar’s 135th birth anniversary celebration included a discourse on “Dr B R Ambedkar’s Vision of Constitutional Morality and its Relevance for Multilateralism.” Vundru, known for his expertise in Ambedkar’s work, underscored the statesman’s support for multilateral approaches, especially post-World War era. He noted that Ambedkar’s constitutional framework mirrors the UN’s commitment to global peace and cooperation.

Santosh Raut, a visiting professor at Harvard Divinity School, echoed Ambedkar’s belief in using the Constitution for social justice and economic progress, aligning with the UN’s objectives. Raut emphasized the role of morality in translating the principles of documents like the UN Charter into action, a concept deeply rooted in Ambedkar’s teachings on Buddhism.
