The planned ‘Babri Yatra’ by suspended Trinamool Congress legislator Humayun Kabir has seen a significant reduction in its route. Initially set to cover 265 kilometers from Palashi to Itahar, the rally will now only span 22 kilometers, ending at Rejinagar in Murshidabad district. The rally, originally intended for 100 vehicles with six participants each, will now proceed as a simple procession.
The alteration in the rally’s route has led to confusion regarding the reasons behind the change. Kabir attributes the curtailment to the lack of necessary police permissions across the three districts the original route was supposed to traverse. However, police authorities state that formal approval for such an extensive rally was not sought. Kabir has assured that the full rally in its original form will be conducted at a later date.
The Babri Yatra aims to counter misinformation surrounding the construction of the proposed Babri Masjid at Beldanga in Murshidabad district. Kabir emphasized the importance of informing the public about this construction due to the spread of false information by vested interests. Construction work on the mosque commenced recently, with Kabir laying bricks at the site. The estimated cost of the mosque’s construction is around Rs 55 crore, with a completion timeline of three years.
