Another Baloch civilian was reportedly extrajudicially killed by Pakistani forces in Balochistan, as claimed by a prominent human rights organization. This incident occurs amidst a rising trend of extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances in the region. The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) stated that the body of a 24-year-old laborer named Rahmdil was discovered near the Banuk-e-Chadae area in the Kech district on June 20, following his disappearance for nearly five months.
Human rights group BYC alleged that Rahmdil was taken into custody by Pakistani forces in January after being summoned to the Hoshap camp. His family had been advocating for his safe return during the months he was missing. The family even staged a protest on January 20 by blocking the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Road in Balochistan, demanding his release.
The BYC highlighted that despite assurances from Pakistani authorities to secure Rahmdil’s release, these promises were not fulfilled. After enduring months of uncertainty, Rahmdil’s mutilated body was eventually found. The BYC emphasized the anguish faced by families in Balochistan searching for their missing loved ones and the pervasive climate of fear in the region due to enforced disappearances.
Last week, the Baloch Voice for Justice expressed serious concerns about the ongoing enforced disappearances in the Panjgur district, alleging that four civilians were forcibly taken by Pakistani forces between June 10 and 20. The BVJ identified the victims as Lateef, Sadeeq, Aziz, and Zahid Baloch, urging international bodies and human rights organizations to address the crisis of enforced disappearances in Balochistan and hold Pakistani authorities accountable.
