The insurgency in Pakistan’s Balochistan province has worsened due to claims of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings by state agencies. According to the South Asia Terrorism Portal, there have been 59 incidents linked to the Balochistan Liberation Front in 2026, resulting in 233 deaths, including civilians, security forces personnel, and militants. The BLF’s annual report for 2025 highlighted a significant year for the ‘national resistance struggle’ in Balochistan, with operations targeting security forces, surveillance infrastructure, and state-linked economic interests.
The BLF reported 581 armed actions in Balochistan in 2025, resulting in 929 casualties, including deaths and injuries among Pakistani forces. The group conducted various attacks, including ambushes, hand-grenade attacks, IED blasts, sniper attacks, and intelligence-based operations using heavy weapons. In a recent attack on Naal town in Khuzdar District, the BLF claimed control over the area, seizing government buildings and accusing a factory of exploiting Balochistan’s resources.
The BLF’s statement on the Naal town attack claimed the killing of 33 Pakistani security personnel. The group’s operational resilience, territorial expansion, and tactical capabilities highlight its significance in the Baloch insurgency. The report suggests that addressing political and security grievances is crucial for lasting stability in Balochistan.
