Balochistan is experiencing a surge in violence, with numerous Pakistani army and security personnel losing their lives in attacks by Baloch armed groups since July 5. Reports indicate that over 100 Baloch fighters have also been killed during this time, with 64 deaths attributed to ‘Operation Shaban’ targeting Baloch freedom fighters.
Retired Indian Army Officer Nilesh Kunwar, in a piece for Eurasia Review, highlighted the strategic measures likely taken by the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) to evade retaliatory actions following the July 5 assaults. Kunwar questioned the Pakistan army’s swift identification and elimination of 64 Baloch fighters, raising concerns about the timing of military operations and the army’s surveillance capabilities.
Kunwar criticized the Pakistan army for its delayed response to armed Baloch groups, referencing a statement by Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir in April 2025 promising action against them. He pointed out the army’s history of alleged extra-judicial killings and questioned the credibility of its casualty claims in Balochistan, emphasizing the lack of accountability in the region.
