Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar dismissed comparisons between Bengaluru and Hyderabad, emphasizing Bengaluru’s sixth position as a global tech hub, contrasting with Hyderabad’s 26th place. In a recent report, Bengaluru was ranked among the top 10 global tech hubs, trailing San Francisco and London. Shivakumar highlighted Bengaluru’s unique strengths and expressed no interest in competing with Hyderabad.
Former Deputy Chief Minister, C.N. Ashwath Narayan, echoed Shivakumar’s sentiment, asserting that Bengaluru should not be equated with Hyderabad. He emphasized Bengaluru’s cosmopolitan nature and unparalleled talent pool, urging the preservation and growth of these attributes.
Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao credited the government’s role in Bengaluru’s success, attributing it to the establishment of public sector industries and educational institutions. Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka noted media comparisons between Bengaluru and Hyderabad, cautioning against overlooking Karnataka’s interests.
Shivakumar highlighted Bengaluru’s significant contributions, including its vast pool of medical and engineering colleges. He emphasized the city’s global recognition, citing instances where world leaders visited Bengaluru before Delhi. Bengaluru’s thriving IT sector, with 26 lakh professionals and numerous Fortune 500 companies, showcased the city’s strength and appeal.
