Bhutan’s left-arm spinner Sonam Yeshey has made cricket history by taking eight wickets in a T20 match, a first in the format. This remarkable achievement occurred during the third T20I against Myanmar in Gelephu, where Yeshey’s spell of 8 for 7 helped restrict Myanmar to 45 runs while chasing Bhutan’s 127 for 9.
The series has been dominated by Yeshey, who has accumulated a total of 12 wickets in four matches, with the final game set for Monday. Before Yeshey’s feat, the best figures in men’s T20 internationals were seven-wicket hauls achieved by Syazrul Idrus and Ali Dawood.
In women’s cricket, Indonesia’s Rohmalia holds the record for the best bowling figures in women’s T20Is and T20s with her exceptional 7 for 0 against Mongolia in 2024. Other notable seven-wicket hauls in women’s T20 internationals have been achieved by players like Frederique Overdijk, Alison Stocks, and Samanthi Dunukedeniya.
Sonam Yeshey made his T20I debut in July 2022 and has now taken a total of 37 wickets in 34 T20 internationals, with this historic eight-wicket haul adding to his impressive tally.
