In a move to bolster prison security and drive jail reforms, the Bihar administration initiated surprise raids across correctional facilities following Samrat Choudhary’s appointment as Chief Minister. Coordinated teams comprising police and civil administration officials conducted thorough searches of wards, barracks, and inmates’ belongings, maintaining vigilance among prisoners. Notably, the raids yielded no contraband or objectionable items, emphasizing the strict monitoring within the prisons.
In Samastipur, an intensive raid was led by Sub-Divisional Officer Dilip Kumar and SDPO Sanjay Pandey at the Divisional Jail to assess security measures and uphold law and order. Similarly, in North Bihar, a large-scale operation at the Shaheed Khudiram Bose Central Jail in Muzaffarpur was overseen by District Magistrate Subrat Kumar Sen and SSP Kantesh Kumar Mishra. The meticulous search covered all sections, including high-security cells, with a focus on bedding, restrooms, and hidden areas.
The crackdown extended to East Champaran, where a joint raid at Motihari Central Jail, supervised by DM Saurabh Jorwal and SP Swarn Prabhat, scrutinized every aspect of the facility. From barracks to kitchens and staff quarters, officials ensured thorough inspections to maintain discipline and deter unlawful activities. Emphasizing the commitment to prison reforms and rehabilitation, DM Jorwal underscored a zero-tolerance policy towards violations, highlighting the government’s dedication to upholding order.
Rounding up the operations, raids were also conducted at the Central Jail and Sherghati Sub-Jail in Gaya district, led by the City Superintendent of Police. Despite extensive searches, no illicit items were found, reflecting the effectiveness of the statewide crackdown. The proactive stance of the new government underscores its focus on fortifying prison security, disrupting potential criminal networks, and instilling discipline in correctional institutions.
