Patna, Aug 8 (IANS) A police jeep met with a serious accident near Singarhiya village under Piprahi police station in Sheohar district on Saturday, leaving a police chowkidar dead and three other personnel injured.

The deceased has been identified as 45‑year‑old Ramji Rai, a resident of Kamrauli village under Piprahi police station. Rai was serving as a village watchman and was also driving the police vehicle due to a shortage of drivers at the police station.

According to preliminary information, Rai was returning to the police station after a patrol in Belwa village along with Sub‑Inspector Ashok Singh and other police personnel.

Near Singarhiya village, the jeep reportedly went out of control while the driver attempted to avoid a person coming from the opposite direction and crashed into a roadside tree. The collision was severe and badly damaged the vehicle.

Four personnel, including Ramji Rai and SI Ashok Singh, were injured. A woman constable travelling in the jeep reportedly escaped serious injury.

Residents helped take the injured to Piprahi Primary Health Centre, from where they were referred to Saroj Sitaram Sadar Hospital. Doctors at the Sadar Hospital declared Ramji Rai dead during the medical examination.

The three injured police personnel are undergoing treatment. SI Ashok Singh’s condition is reported to be critical, and arrangements are being made to shift him to Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH), Muzaffarpur, for advanced treatment.

After receiving information about the accident, Ramji Rai’s son Deepak Kumar, along with other family members and villagers, reached Sadar Hospital. The family was devastated by the sudden death.

Meanwhile, Sheohar SP Shailendra Kumar Singh visited the hospital and took stock of the condition of the injured police personnel. He also gathered information about the circumstances surrounding the accident from officials present at the hospital.

The body was sent for post‑mortem. After its completion, it will be handed over to the deceased’s family.
