Patna, Aug 8 (IANS) Bihar Health Minister Nishant Kumar met Union Health Minister JP Nadda in New Delhi on Saturday and held detailed discussions on strengthening healthcare services and expanding ongoing health‑sector initiatives in the state.

Nishant Kumar described the meeting as a courtesy call, while stating that several important healthcare issues were discussed, including the expansion of trauma centres and super‑speciality hospitals across Bihar.

The Health Minister said the state government’s objective is to provide accessible, affordable and high‑quality healthcare to the people.

He also briefed the Union Minister on various health schemes currently being implemented in Bihar and the progress of projects undertaken by the Health Department.

Since taking charge of the department, Nishant Kumar has emphasised strengthening healthcare facilities at the district level. The government is working towards establishing super‑speciality blocks in district hospitals, along with improving diagnostic and treatment facilities.

The objective is to ensure that patients can receive essential treatment and diagnostic services closer to home, reducing the need to travel to major hospitals or other districts.

The Health Department is also increasing the deployment of specialist doctors at district and referral hospitals so that more patients can receive specialised treatment locally.

Another key focus is to reduce the practice of unnecessarily referring patients to higher‑level medical centres.

By strengthening specialist services and diagnostic facilities at district and referral hospitals, the government hopes to enable these institutions to handle more cases locally.

Nishant Kumar also mentioned the advanced facilities recently opened in Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) and Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), Patna.

He recently inaugurated a dialysis facility at IGIMS and updated the Union Minister about the expansion of PMCH.

The initiatives are part of Bihar’s broader effort to build a stronger healthcare system and advance the government’s vision of a “Healthy Bihar.”
