Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State General Secretary Anoop Antony and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) have called for a thorough investigation into the death of Malayali medical student Sawariya Basanth in Uzbekistan. They emphasized the need to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure a fair inquiry. The incident, which involved alleged pressure to convert religion and mental harassment, has sparked widespread concern.
The re-postmortem at Alappuzha Medical College revealed multiple bruises on the victim’s body, contradicting initial reports of a fatal head injury from a laptop. Anoop Antony stressed the importance of addressing the family’s allegations seriously, including claims of religious coercion and physical abuse. He urged for transparency in uncovering the truth and holding all accountable under the law.
Antony commended the Central Government and Indian Embassy for promptly repatriating Sawariya’s remains and urged continued diplomatic efforts until the investigation concludes. Additionally, he advocated for enhanced safety measures for Indian students studying abroad. Meanwhile, ABVP raised alarm over the suspected murder, linking it to a failed love jihad attempt and demanding a comprehensive inquiry. They identified the accused and called for government intervention to ensure justice prevails.
