After West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee suggested a conspiracy in the death of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in a plane crash, BJP and JD(U) leaders condemned her remarks. Banerjee had expressed doubts about the impartiality of central investigating agencies and called for a court-monitored probe into the incident. BJP’s Syed Shahnawaz Hussain termed Banerjee’s comments as inappropriate and accused her of politicizing a tragic event.
Reacting to Banerjee’s statements, Hussain highlighted that investigations into the plane crash were underway and criticized her for linking the incident to a conspiracy. He emphasized that Banerjee, being a former Union Railway Minister, should understand the investigative processes in such cases. Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister O.P. Rajbhar also criticized Banerjee, labeling her remarks as insensitive and accused her of playing politics over a tragedy.
JD(U) leader Rajiv Ranjan Prasad echoed NCP chief Sharad Pawar’s call for refraining from politicizing the tragedy. Prasad emphasized the need for sensitivity towards the grieving family and criticized Banerjee for her untimely comments. Congress MP Imran Masood took a cautious stance, suggesting that the aircraft was in good condition and implying that accidents can occur without negligence.
