Agnimitra Paul, the BJP candidate from Asansol Dakshin, received her winning certificate and attributed her victory to Syama Prasad Mookerjee, the Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder. With a significant lead over the Trinamool Congress, Paul emphasized the public’s demonstration of strength.
In her remarks, Paul highlighted Mookerjee’s role in making West Bengal a homeland for Hindus and expressed joy over the potential formation of a BJP government in the state. She also urged Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to exhibit more courtesy and humility, emphasizing the public’s empowerment and response.
Securing 1,19,582 votes, Agnimitra Paul triumphed over Trinamool Congress candidate Tapas Banerjee by a substantial margin exceeding 40,800 votes. Notably, several other BJP candidates, including Noman Rai, Bharat Kumar Chetri, Sankar Kumar Guchhait, Saikat Panja, and Karfa Soumen, emerged victorious in their respective constituencies.
The BJP, having clinched 12 seats and leading in 188 constituencies, showcased a strong performance, while the Trinamool Congress trailed with five wins and 82 leads. As per the latest ECI trends at 5:15 p.m., the BJP’s electoral success was evident, reflecting a significant shift in West Bengal’s political landscape.
