Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates in West Bengal expressed appreciation for the Election Commission’s move to conduct re-polling at 15 booths in Magrahat (Paschim) and Diamond Harbour constituencies. This decision followed complaints of EVM button tampering in Falta. Suvendu Adhikari, BJP candidate, welcomed the decision for Magrahat West but suggested extending it to more booths in Diamond Harbour.
Adhikari emphasized the importance of fair procedures like CCTV footage and observer reports in the decision-making process. He stressed the party’s respect for the Election Commission’s protocols. Arjun Singh, BJP candidate from Noapara, supported the re-polling decision, citing the need for ensuring every voter’s right to cast a ballot.
In contrast, Trinamool Congress leader Kunal Ghosh criticized the re-polling, claiming it was being demanded forcefully. Ghosh expressed confidence in Trinamool Congress winning by a significant margin in the affected booths. The re-polling is scheduled for 15 booths, with 11 in Magrahat (Paschim) and four in Diamond Harbour, after the Assembly elections on April 29.
