Just weeks after Prime Minister Narendra Modi showcased ‘jhalmuri’ during campaigning in West Bengal, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has adopted it as a symbol of victory as early election trends favor the party. The snack gained prominence after PM Modi was seen enjoying it in Jhargram, sparking a viral moment and drawing political reactions, including criticism from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
‘Jhalmuri’ became a metaphor in the campaign, representing the political intensity and regional identity. PM Modi further integrated it into his speeches, using it to make political statements. As the Election Commission of India’s trends showed BJP leading in 194 seats, the party’s supporters embraced the ‘jhal’ symbolism, celebrating with jhalmuri across the nation.
Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi and other leaders expressed joy over the victory, attributing it to PM Modi’s leadership and hard work. The BJP’s success in West Bengal was hailed as historic, with leaders praising Amit Shah’s efforts in breaking the Trinamool Congress stronghold. Celebrations extended nationwide, with BJP workers seen jubilantly sharing jhalmuri on the streets.
