The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stated that West Bengal’s borders with Bangladesh are now more secure, thanks to the state government led by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari facilitating land allocation for the Border Security Force (BSF) to install barbed fencing. The Chief Minister’s office shared that 1,024.75 acres of land have been handed over to the BSF for fencing along 172.6 km of the India–Bangladesh border in West Bengal. Notably, districts like Murshidabad, North 24 Parganas, and Malda saw significant land transfers for fencing purposes.
The land allocation for border fencing extended to various districts in West Bengal, with Murshidabad leading with 337 acres for 45.4 km of fencing, followed by North 24 Parganas with 241.03 acres for 42.07 km, and Malda with 176.78 acres for 20.15 km. Other districts like Cooch Behar, Nadia, and South Dinajpur also contributed land for fencing. The BJP highlighted the importance of enhancing border security under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi and CM Suvendu Adhikari, emphasizing national security as a top priority.
The recent land handovers to the BSF in West Bengal mark a significant shift in border security measures since the new state government, led by Suvendu Adhikari, assumed power. The BJP administration’s approach involves direct land purchases by the state, subsequent transfer to the BSF, and reimbursement from the central government. This proactive stance contrasts with the previous administration’s handling of border security matters, as per the BJP’s statements.
