The BJP criticized the Congress for what it perceives as double standards in empowering marginalized sections of society. BJP leader Amit Malviya accused the Congress of using President Mallikarjun Kharge as a mere figurehead and symbol of Dalit empowerment. Malviya highlighted Kharge’s statement entrusting the Karnataka Congress feud decision to Rahul Gandhi, calling it a glimpse into the Congress party’s feudal culture.
Malviya pointed out that while the Congress preaches social justice, Dalit leaders within the party are often treated as placeholders or electoral tools rather than independent power centers. He emphasized that even during the UPA regime, Dalit leaders were symbolically elevated while real power remained concentrated around the Gandhis. The BJP leader cited instances where Dalit leaders were allegedly used as sacrificial candidates in predetermined losing battles, only to be sidelined when it came to decision-making.
According to Malviya, Kharge’s public declaration that Rahul Gandhi would resolve the Karnataka Congress feud further solidified the perception of him as a mere rubber stamp for the Congress. He criticized the Congress for historically using Dalits for political convenience without granting them genuine power and agency. Malviya cited examples such as Sushilkumar Shinde and Meira Kumar, highlighting how Dalit leaders were fielded in challenging situations or symbolic roles without real authority.
