Senior BJP leader R. Ashoka accused the Karnataka government of a Rs 225 crore fraud under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme, calling it a case of “state-sponsored cybercrime.” He demanded a CBI and central cybercrime agency investigation into the matter.
Ashoka claimed that a gang of officials and politicians was involved in the alleged scam. Despite a reported Rs 225 crore irregularity highlighted in a CAG report, no action has been taken by the government.
The BJP leader criticized the government for allowing payments to fake accounts and questioned the inaction of the Revenue Department. He emphasized the need for an SIT to probe the issue and highlighted the involvement of deceased beneficiaries in the alleged scam.
Ashoka revealed that around 2.11 lakh beneficiaries were deceased, with an additional 77,000 individuals’ data yet to be traced. He alleged that the government had failed to prevent payments to deceased persons, terming it a significant cybercrime.
The BJP leader also accused the Congress of mismanagement, citing irregularities in a Guarantee Committee awarding degrees to the “displaced.” He criticized the Finance Department’s handling of pensions, which have been suspended for 16 lakh beneficiaries due to revenue shortages.
