Senior BJP leader H. Raja has criticized the Tamil Nadu government for abruptly stopping the live broadcast of Assembly proceedings. He questioned whether this action was aimed at concealing what he termed as the Chief Minister’s “embarrassment” during debates in the House. The controversy arose when the live telecast was reportedly cut off during discussions on the Governor’s Address.
Opposition parties raised concerns as the live feed was allegedly halted once the debate on the Governor’s Address commenced. This move sparked criticism from various quarters. In a social media post, Raja accused the ruling TVK government of reneging on a crucial election pledge made by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.
Raja questioned the government’s motives behind halting the telecast, suggesting it was to shield the Chief Minister from impromptu questions posed by opposition members. He claimed that while Vijay could deliver prepared speeches, the government feared exposing him to unscripted interactions and criticism during legislative debates. The BJP leader emphasized the importance of transparency in legislative proceedings and urged the Chief Minister to govern with a better grasp of public concerns.
The distinction between governance and cinema was highlighted by Raja, who stressed the need for continuous engagement with public issues and opposition perspectives in running a government. He cautioned that relying solely on image-building without effective governance could lead to political repercussions. The ruling TVK government has not yet responded to Raja’s allegations regarding the suspension of the Assembly’s live telecast.
