Following a significant win for the BJP, party leader Nitin Nabin extended congratulations to the people of West Bengal and other states that recently held elections. Nabin, after a temple visit post the historic West Bengal Assembly elections victory, expressed confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. He emphasized the importance of divine blessings for the nation’s progress and cultural heritage, seeking the guidance of deities like Maa Kali and Maa Kamakhya.
The BJP’s success in West Bengal signifies a notable political transformation in a state traditionally considered an Opposition stronghold. After over 15 years of rule by the All India Trinamool Congress under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the BJP’s performance is seen as a significant milestone in eastern India. With the BJP securing 206 seats out of 293 declared, surpassing the Trinamool Congress, the electoral mandate reflects the people’s aspirations.
In terms of vote share, the BJP garnered 46%, with the Trinamool Congress at 41%. The Left Front, Congress, and other parties collectively accounted for the remaining share. Notably, the Trinamool Congress faced a setback by not winning any seats in several districts and losing in tribal and Matua-dominated constituencies. The majority mark in the 294-member Assembly stands at 196, with results declared for 293 constituencies and repolling scheduled in one seat.
