The new Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government in West Bengal is set to take oath on May 9 at the Brigade Parade Ground. This ceremony will be graced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The date was chosen as it coincides with the birth anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore according to the Bengali calendar.
BJP’s West Bengal president, Samik Bhattacharya, refrained from revealing the name of the Chief Minister for the first BJP-led government in the state. Bhattacharya, along with BJP officials, visited the state secretariat for discussions on the swearing-in ceremony and measures to prevent post-poll violence. The Election Commission of India has instructed the state administration to maintain zero tolerance towards any post-poll violence incidents.
Bhattacharya emphasized that the party will not tolerate any acts of revenge or forceful takeovers of party offices. He urged the administration to take strict action against those involved in such activities, regardless of their political affiliations. The ECI’s directive to the West Bengal Chief Secretary and law enforcement agencies follows reports of violence in various parts of the state after the election results were announced.
