BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai criticized the Siddaramaiah government for allowing hijabs in schools, calling it an irresponsible decision that could divide students along religious lines. Bommai pointed out that globally, countries like Saudi Arabia and Iran are moving away from mandating hijabs, making Karnataka’s move regressive.
He accused the state government of needlessly stirring controversy and stated that such actions were unbecoming of a responsible administration. Bommai emphasized that the decision was made without public demand and could potentially sow discord and discrimination among students.
Despite ongoing legal battles over the issue, Bommai criticized the government for promoting appeasement politics and warned of possible future anxieties and divisions among students if the order is not rescinded. He highlighted the government’s lack of a clear educational policy and urged a focus on more pressing matters instead of divisive directives.
