BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad criticized the Opposition during a debate on a no-confidence resolution against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. He cautioned against misusing this parliamentary tool for political or personal reasons. Prasad emphasized that such motions should not be used to settle political scores or satisfy individual egos.

During the discussion in the Lok Sabha, Prasad took a dig at Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, questioning his behavior both inside Parliament and during international visits. He suggested that Congress leader K.C. Venugopal should provide guidance to Rahul Gandhi on parliamentary conduct. Prasad’s remarks led to opposition members protesting loudly.

Reflecting on Parliament’s history, Prasad highlighted the institution’s ability to maintain dignity during turbulent times. He mentioned past incidents where MPs were expelled for misconduct, emphasizing Parliament’s resilience in upholding its stature. Prasad also recalled challenging periods like the Emergency, accusing the Congress of undermining democratic institutions at that time.

Prasad discussed the painful memories of the Emergency era, criticizing the Congress for its actions during that period. He highlighted the role of Justice H.R. Khanna, who dissented during the Emergency regarding the suspension of fundamental rights. Prasad also mentioned the health struggles of socialist leader Jayaprakash Narayan during the Emergency, illustrating the challenges faced by political figures at that time.
