The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has chosen farmer leader Raju Karpada as its candidate for the Muli-2 seat of the Surendranagar District Panchayat, just a day after he joined the party. Karpada, previously associated with the Aam Aadmi Party’s farmer wing in Gujarat, expressed his commitment to working for the welfare of farmers upon joining the BJP.
Karpada gained attention for leading a protest against the ‘Kadada practice’ in Botad last year, which resulted in his arrest. Following his release, he disassociated himself from the AAP and officially joined the BJP. The BJP’s swift decision to field Karpada has sparked discussions among political circles in Surendranagar, with party members showing enthusiasm for his nomination.
In a separate move, former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Manoj Ninama, who recently joined the BJP, has been nominated by the party for the Odh district panchayat seat in Shamlaji taluka of Aravalli district. Ninama, a retired Gujarat-cadre officer, decided to enter politics after serving as Inspector General of Police in the traffic branch in Gandhinagar.
